One question that every one of us should ask him, “Am I depressed really?” Depression is the disease of the modern times. It can be caused by a variety of factors. The major etiologies of the depression include the stress, physical or mental trauma, hormonal imbalance and chemical imbalance. Also, there may be a genetic predisposition to the development of depression. Problems in the living status and the environmental triggers can also cause the depression. Those who live in the tense environment have little ability to develop their personalities; their personalities never become complete. They can never compose themselves. The victims of some abuses of sexual or physical type are prone to develop the depression even a long time after the actual incident.
Substance abuse usually affects the nerves and also creates a hormonal imbalance. These substances may lead to the development of the depression, especially among the young boys. These substances contain active chemicals which reach the central nervous system. In the CNS they can cause an imbalance in the levels of the neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters include serotonin, dopamine, and epinephrine, etc. these neurotransmitters are involved in the mood stabilization, its elevation, and depression.
The type of personality which a person also has leads to the development of the depression. The persons with the personality type A are hard, rigid; they tend to follow the routine life, have competitiveness, tend to be professionals, have hostility, etc. They are more prone to develop the depression. This type A personalities are also prone to develop the heart diseases.
Have you ever thought about yourself? Do you remain happy or depressed all the times? Does your mood fluctuates or remains stable? Do you get affected by the petty things? Do the trivial matters cause huge shifts in your mood? These all things must be sorted if you want to know the state of your mind.
When we are not able to grasp something and understand it properly, it becomes a constant source of frightening for us. It always keeps the mind in a state of overwhelming depression. In this article, I will be writing the causes of the depression, why people get the depression and how they can evade it.
First of all, forget that the depression is an organic disease. There is a very little evidence that it has a genetic predisposition. Leave that, and think of the common life instances as the source of the depression. You should have some knowledge about the depression and how it works if you want to combat it.
The first question that is to be asked from you is: Am I depressed? What is lacking in my life? What is causing me to remain depressed all the times?
One of the attitudes that develop in the depressed people is that they feel helpless. They think that there is no one in the life who can be helpful to them in the changing situations. This is not all the times true. Sometimes the victim of the depression projects his past experiences to the present and future events and acts accordingly. Perhaps these are past life experiences that make one think that all the other people are sadistic or manipulative etc. they make certain ideas about the people in general. Challenge these projections and generalizations after realizing their presence.
A lot of organic causes do cause depression. Low thyroid levels cause depression. Corticosteroids can also play a role in the mood. Testosterone is one of the major factors associated with depression and mood changes. Treatment of hormonal imbalances causes dramatic changes in the life of the depressed one.
Depression itself is not a disease. It is the symptom of either a disease or is a reaction of the body to the challenging events in the environment.2016-08-24
