Remedial approaches to Acid Reflux Disease or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD); the “backward” or “upward” movement of gastric acid or juices from the stomach to the esophagus due to a weakened physical barrier, involves a variety of factors. Several publications of varying intent (profit and compassion) and methodologies promise certain degree of cure or simply a hasty relief of its symptoms. The leading manifestation of GERD is heartburn followed by difficulty in breathing, sore throat, excessive belching or possibly a cocktail of the foregoing. Chronic exposure can have serious consequences starting with ulcer of the esophagus to its apex which is cancer of the esophagus.
One such publication claiming such breakthrough in relieving or curing the disease is the Reflux Remedy Report from Barton Publishing. It is a publishing house that sells various write-ups suggesting natural and practical health solutions for almost all sorts of ailments. Such materials are available in soft or hard print. Going back to our main subject – remedy of acid reflux, the Report was first envisioned when one night Mr. Bob Barton discovered that a certain apple variety relieved his heartburn. Over time he was able to formulate three natural remedies to relieve or cure acid reflux. As to what these three are, one has to purchase the Report in PDF file for 20.00 Dollars US at least. Interestingly, however, materials involved in these remedies are said to be common grocery items. The three remedies outlined in the Report, according to the Author’s account, have a 70% success rate.
This said, I reckon one has to settle with the fact that there is no single cure for acid reflux. Hence, many adults instead of relying so much on temporary relief being offered by over-the-counter and prescription drugs resort to natural measures. There are at least three practical and one natural remedy being recommended by health care professionals: weight lose, drinking lots of water and positioning. Now, the three measures in detail;
• Weight lose – the opposite of weight gain involves various elements such healthy food choices, dieting and exercise. Avoiding fast (junk) and fried foods altogether is a significant leap in not only freezing weight gain but avoiding bad cholesterol as well. When dieting, always bear in mind the food pyramid and consume at least five (seven servings would be best) servings per day fresh fruits and vegetables of different color. These fresh goodies contain natural anti-oxidants and phytonutrients that can improve overall health and eliminate free radicals in the system. Exercising does not have to be physically and financially prohibitive since there are inexpensive ways to it. Try breast walking or simply walking at first for 20-30 minutes a day and you’ll be running a ten mile marathon in three to five months time. Being obese or over weight, however, is not the single most culprit causing the problem.
• Water holds at least 57% of the adult human body and with sufficient intake water is beneficial in diluting stomach acid. Water also helps soothe other health problems such as constipation and needless to say, its inexpensive, a product of nature and almost virtually has no contraindication.
• Always maintain an upright position when taking food or drinking. If for reasons of health an upright position is contraindicated, at least assume a 45-degree angle or High Fowler’s position (60o angle) or as high as allowed. Lying flat on bed while taking food and beverages orally should be discouraged since this can cause partially digested food materials including stomach acid to “back flow”.
While no single solution can fix the problem on a single sweep, it wise, nonetheless, to consider all three recommendations at once or start with what works best for you.2016-08-04
