Sometimes every year, a person may feel depress with Seasonal affective disorder (SAD). The symptoms may start by fall and continues until winter. This kind of depression is weird because it drags down your energy and makes you a bit moody. However, there are also times that this feeling is brought during spring or early summer.
To treat seasonal affective disorder, phototherapy is being used. Psychotherapy and medications may also be prescribed if needed. People usually say that the feeling they have on this season are simply winter blues and can go away fast. But this mentality must be scrapped out and take further steps in knowing the reason behind this condition.
SAD usually appears during the season of fall or winter and goes away during summer time in that sense. Hence, there are some people who have an opposite pattern where people usually get SAD during summer and get rids of it on winter.
People who are suffering from bipolar disorder can bring on symptoms of mania or a less intense form of mania which is known as hypomania. In this sense, signs and symptoms of reverse SAD are as follows:
• Frequent change of mood
• Rapid way of thinking and speaking
• Unbridled enthusiasm out of balance to the situation
• Excessive thinking
Feeling low at times is normal. However, when you feel down for days, and you seem not to motivate yourself to do your normal routine, then it is advised for you to see a doctor. Consider relaxing if you now see that your way of sleeping is already different and that you are already into thinking unwanted thoughts. It is important to relax you mind and your body especially if you always go to work.
SAD originated since 400 BC. According to Hippocrates seasons may cause illness. After 200 years, a therapy called light therapy has become a solution for people who have lethargic or those who has suffered “gloom.” The feeling of depression on fall till winter or anytime in between has cultivated into many cultures.
This type of illness is common to young adult, especially to women. Although that’s the case, it can also take into effect with men or any gender in that sense. Moreover, even though it is common to young adults, there are also those of older ages that suffer the same thing. In North America, about six out of 100 suffers this kind o illness.
Like any other depression, SAD is a clinical depression that can bring devastation to a person. It’s a good thing that people who have SAD can seek help by using therapies and alike:
SAD or known as a seasonal depression may not have an evident reason or definition on where or how SAD originated, below are a few theories that have been made.
• Our brain produces chemicals that are liable for the changes in our brain and with a certain amount of sunlight involved it can cause more changes. The risk factor of SAD may be due to geographical locations that are dark or cloudy which usually happens during winter.
• Seasonal depression may be genetically inhibited.
• People who are alcoholic and dependence on something. Let’s say the drug may incur SAD. It sometimes goes together.
• Having a low level of Vitamin D can trigger your body to accommodate more negative moods that can lead to SAD.
Seasonal Depression may not be that alarming, but it is still a type of depression in that sense. So, taken extra care and conscious abut it may change a lot.2016-08-25
