There are many forms of arthritis. It is a common disease which is characterized by the inflammation of the joints, muscles, and bones.
Gouty arthritis is one such form. It is commonly referred to as gout. Most people experience gout as the painful swelling of the big toe. Although this is the more common manifestation of gout, gout also affects joints in other areas of the body.
Gout is likely to affect males who are in their 40’s or 50’s. Women who develop the condition tend to do so when they reach the post-menopausal stage. Kids and teenagers are not likely to acquire the condition although they may do so when they get older. People who have undergone organ transplantation are at risk of the condition.
Gout is a chronic condition. There is no known absolute cure for it. The treatment does not stop here, however. Your doctor is want to strongly advise you to lose weight. People who are overweight tend to register high amounts of uric acid in their bodies. When you lose weight, you also bring down the acid levels. And lower your chance of suffering from this debilitating condition.
There are many other methods to do this. Individuals who have had to go through the misery of a gout episode should learn from the experience and do everything within their means not to go through such misery again.
As simple and commonplace as it may sound, patients should assess their nutrition and exercise regimens. There are certain foods which trigger the attacks. There are also foods which serve to minimize the occurrence of the pains. Making significant changes in what you usually put on the table is the first order of the day.
Next, consider the possibility of taking up some form of exercise. It does not have to be the sophisticated or complicated type. It can be as basic as putting on your walking shoes and walking several times around the block. Just as long as you do the exercise regularly, you are on your way to minimizing the probability of another attack coming on.
Losing weight and developing healthy lifestyle habits can be slow and gradual. But as long as it is consistent, this is good. You are on your way to exerting control over your uric acid so that the level does not reach the point where crystallization happens.2016-08-08
